Critical Reflection

Link:  CR Google Doc How do your products represent social groups or issues? A social group or issue represented in my products is the Lgbtq community. Our main character, Jack, is a gay man with the film featuring him and his boyfriend. Our film however does not entirely focus on Jack’s sexuality, I believe this even more strongly represents the social group of the Lgbtq community because it helps reduce stigma and normalize seeing gay couples on the big screen. With the story being largely similar as to what it would be if Jack had a girlfriend instead of a boyfriend it brings awareness to the true normalcy of Lgbtq couples and the struggles they experience similar to everyone else. This detail of Jack being gay is not in the focus so much so that this detail is not featured anywhere in the postcard or website. This furthers the idea of how creating no special focus on Jack’s gay identity strongly represents the social group of the Lgbtq community. There is no example of discriminati

The End is In Sight

We are nearly done with our film! Being in the final editing stages is such a relief after the craziness this film has brought. From multiple plot changes and confusion to losing our entire film and having to start over it has been a wild ride. We have begun doing peer reviews and getting feedback from people like our friends and parents. With only a few notes that Lola, our main editor, had gone back and fixed, The Crash is almost complete. This project has been so fun and truly advanced my film making abilities. This includes everything from filming to making the storyboard. I have been much more hand on with this project than I feel I was in my AS level projects and I have loved it. I am truly going to miss this class when I finish this course. The only final things left for the other aspects of this project is the website and postcard. Lola has sent me her draft of the postcard which I had some notes on. I suggested she add a border and one more additional photo to back up the cont

Onto Editing!

Editing a film is often a time-consuming and meticulous process, but it is essential in bringing our vision to life. "The Crash" is no exception, requiring hours of careful work to ensure the final product is flawless. The first step in editing "The Crash" was to assemble all of the footage that was shot during production. This means sifting through hours of footage to find the best takes and scenes to include in the final cut. Once the footage was assembled, we then began the process of cutting and arranging the scenes to create a cohesive story. This involves making tough decisions about which shots to keep and which to discard. In addition to cutting the footage, we also added in visual effects, sound effects, and music to enhance the overall viewing experience. This can be a time-consuming process, but when done correctly, it can elevate the film to new heights. One of the most important aspects of editing "The Crash" was ensuring that the pacing of t

Let's Wrap It Up

Image
Onto the final day of filming! Yay we're reaching the end. The only scenes we had left to film were the house scenes and the hospital scene. We decided to do these both at Lola's house. We all met up at her house after school yesterday to get everything done. The only people in the scenes we were filming were Jack and one of his friends, played by Nate. We started out with the house scenes, for this we used Lola's front room. We also asked Lola's parents to participate in playing Jack's parents in the film. They said yes and we got her house a little bit tidied before starting. We quickly shot the parent scenes and moved upstairs for the room scenes. For this we had to make dizzying effects on the camera to show Jack passing out. We did this by slightly shaking the camera and rotating it in a circle. Once Jack fell over and was passed out we filmed a final shot of his face. I then reviewed the shots we had gotten so far while Jack, Nate, and Lola set up Lola's

The Car Crash

Image
Hey there! Yesterday my group and I got together again to continue filming. After school we all drove to Lola's house to film the car scenes outside of her house. We used my car and Lola's car for the scenes. We started with the crash scene and shots of Jack driving in his car. This was a bit of a challenge to get the right angles as there is limited space in a car. We ended up having the person filming wither in the car with Jack or filming through an open window. After we got a few shots like this we filmed the car crash scene. This was also a challenge to film since we didn't want to actually crash our cars. We talked about it a little bit to get some ideas and we decided that we can just do a black screen with car crash noises to add dramatic effect and achieve the desired dramatic effect. Next we had to film the short scenes with a cop and Jack getting a ticket. We had to make sure this was filmed correctly to really show the annoyance in Jack's day that this cras

A Day at the Mall!

Image
Hey there! I'm happy to report that my group and I have finally started filming. We got together over the weekend and got some filming done. We met up at the Galleria mall to film the mall scenes. This was a good start for us so we could get into the groove of filming. The people who came ended up being me, Lola, Jack, and our friends Nate and Tanner. We all got together at the food court to decide the shops we wanted to film in. The first place we went was Pacsun. We had to talk to the workers at all of the stores to make sure it was okay that we were filming. I was behind the camera while Lola, Nate, Jack, and Tanner acted as a friend group shopping at the store. I gave them directions and made sure we had the right angles to portray our story. Next we went to the Apple store and did a similar process of filming. We repeated this process with two more stores to make sure we had a good amount of takes to use. Only in one store we had some issues with filming and not being allowed
