A-Level Intro Blog

 I'm back!!

Hi, my name is Samantha Price and I am a junior at Fort Lauderdale High school. I play lacrosse, read, and crochet in my free time. I want to learn about directing films, because I love acting. I even plan to go to film school for college, which is partially why I chose to take this class. I also wanted to learn even more about the film-making process as a whole. After completing AS-Level I couldn't wait to create more films and learn more about the theories accompanied with modern day media. Making films of my own, I get to learn all of this in a fun way. This class has already influenced how I watch films and television, making me notice the actions directors take and why. I learned a lot about camera angles in AS-Level and hope to learn more about the editing process this year. For this short film, I have many elaborate ideas that I hope to utilize and complete. These include thoughts on the way we should fade and cut in between scenes.

Another important part of this class is learning about the content of the film itself. For example, theorists and their theories about the influence of media.  I learned about so many conventions in AS-Level and now notice when these conventions are portrayed around me in advertising.  Learning about this has helped me become more aware of the content I consume. I think it is important for everyone to learn this so that the film industry can grow out of its harmful ways. I have taken an array of Cambridge classes, but none like this so I was especially interested in A-Level. This is a project based class that I have already completed a portion of, which I like because it really shows my growth throughout the years. This is good for me to look back on and physically see what I learned. Finally, my short film will be the most creatively independent project I have completed yet. This will be a motivating factor for me because I enjoy the content we are creating. I am ready to complete this project and learn about film and media in the process.
