A Morning of Work

Once we got to Macy's house, figured out the changes we needed to make, and found all of our props, we officially started the filming process. We started in the morning by going around to all of the rooms we were going to film and planned how it would work. We started in Macy's room and planned how we would film her waking up and getting ready. The main character started in her bed so Macy laid down in her bed so Noura and I could get a realistic view. We then discussed ways to start the music video. We knew that we wanted a close up on Macy's face for the first line of the song but didn't know how to get there. Noura and I tried a couple of different options, first we thought about coming in from the door of her room and slowly closing in, but we decided against it. We tried zooming slowly from the corner of the room, but it just looked unnatural and plain. We then came up with the idea to slowly push in from a high angle down towards her face. This worked well for us because it incorporated a ceiling fan and made the intro to the song less visually boring as we zoom in towards the main character's face. Before we filmed the bedroom scene we also realized we had to figure out the lighting in the room. We wanted it to be clear that it was the morning, but we couldn't just have it be too dark. Luckily Macy had a sunset lamp, which is like a colored LED light. We set it to a dark color that you could sleep with, but was bright enough that the camera could pick up on the main character and her room. It worked perfectly once we figured out the best way to set up the lamp, we had to decide if it should be shining directly on her face or not.

After we planned the first bedroom scene we went into the bathroom to plan that scene before we started to film. As I previously mentioned, we had to change from the story board on how we filmed the scene, but we also had to plan all of our movements and how to make the shots run smoothly. It was decided that I be the masked figure so I had to figure out when to pop up in the mirror and when I had to go behind a wall and hide. This was made a degree more difficult because the mask was just a beanie pulled over my face, so I couldn't see. We practiced and tried different angles and movement before finally being happy with how the filming would run.

Finally, after all of this planning we filmed the bedroom and bathroom scenes. The bedroom scene took more takes than we expected, and more takes than the bathroom scene, this was probably because it was the first thing we filmed and we had to get used to working together. We also had to make the timing correct with the song in the first scene.
