CCR

Here is my CCR, it is in the form of a podcast. I hope you enjoy!

This is the script I used:

*intro song*
Hello listeners Im Noura Attah and you're listening to ModernMedia! The podcast where I discuss the gritty details of filmmaking and inspiration with up and coming names in the film industry. Today we have a very warm welcome for our special guest of the episode, executive producer and assistant director to the 2023 film Charlie, Samantha Price!!

Hii, thank you so much for having me!

Of course, you're a pleasure to have. Now, I was thinking we could get straight into it and talk about your exciting new film.

Sounds perfect

First tell me a little bit about the film itself.

Okay, Charlie is a new take on thriller that uses all the classic cliches. I don’t wanna reveal too much but it’s the story of three friends and a spooky supernatural sleepover.

Oooooh sounds thrilling

That’s the goal!
*both laugh*

Alright, the first question I have for you that the loyal fans of ModernMedia want to know is a two parter really. First, how does your product use or challenge conventions?

Well, my product, which is the opening of a short film, pretty much follows the conventions of a thriller film. It has realistic characters, which are popular in thrillers, to increase fear and suspense. These characters are teenage girls who end up dying, which also often happens in
thriller movies.

Another convention my product follows is the props and costumes used. My film uses
relatable, everyday outfits, in this case pajamas since it is set at a sleepover, as well as the classic thriller prop of a bloody weapon. Thrillers do this so that audiences can connect to the characters and feel like it could happen to them, scaring them even more and increasing suspense. This idea always appealed to me and I liked when directors used it, so I implemented it in my
film.

Yeah from what I've seen, it has a very classic thriller feel to it.

That’s what I was going for!

Well then you sure succeeded.

As for challenging conventions my product doesn’t really do much. This is mostly because,
like I said, I was very inspired by other thriller films and the classic cliches used in them. I
wanted that exact same feel as them with a new original, and scary, story.

Well personally, I cant wait to see it. And I'm sure my listeners agree.

What's the other part of the question?

Well, going off of conventions, how would you say your film represents social groups or
issues?

Hmm okay, well I talked about teenage girls being the main characters, which is a very
prominent social group in today’s society. Teenage girls have many issues with representation, especially in thriller films. The way they are always the first to die is likely because society
views them as naïve or dumb. Assuming they wont survive long, especially without the help
of others. Now with saying this I personally think those assumptions aren't true 90% of the
time, however my film is full of cliches and conventions so it doesn’t go against this idea of
almost weak and vulnerable teenage girls. Spoiler alert: one of them actually gets killed in the first two minutes!

*gasp*

Scary I know

Cant get much quicker than that!

Yeah

*laugh*

Those were very insightful answers sam! Youre really taking us into the creative process
and what inspired you.

Well that’s what Im here for.

Okay, the next question I have for you is how does your product engage with audiences AND (a two-parter again I know) how would it be distributed as a real media text?
I would say that my film engages with audiences by being personal. This factor not only means the tension and thrilling nature of the film is increased but also the connection to audience. For example, an audience of teen girls would relate to having a sleepover with girlfriends and doing random fun things to pass the time. Of course hopefully the audiences sleepovers don’t end in murder!

*laugh*

The audience would also be engaged with the tension increasing scenes, like the one of the door crack, that I added throughout to create suspense.

Right right, sounds like interesting techniques. What about distribution?

Well, it would be the same as any other movie really, but probably specifically targeted towards a teenage audience. With that being said, I would try to advertise specifically on social media apps like TikTok and Instagram, modifying the trailer to fit a format they can use in. Perhaps an Instagram reel. Also putting the trailer on streaming apps like Amazon Prime, where its released. As for traditional methods there would of course be a trailer and clips shown in previews for other movies in the theaters. I also really enjoy being personal and advertising on podcasts like this! Speaking of, make sure to see Charlie, in theaters now

Haha, Yeah I think those are perfect ways to distribute it. My personal favorite being the podcast of course!

Yeah I figured!

Don’t go podcast cheating on me and my listeners now though!

Hahaha I would never.

Alright good. What about the production skills you developed through this project. Im sure they improved so what would you say they are?

Hmm well it is only the third project that I have worked on recently so I still had a lot to learn you're right. As an actor in the film I learned more about being in front of the camera and working with the director by listening to notes and applying them. While behind the camera my skills developed as well because being an assistant director means that I had to improvise and solve problems. One of these problems was funny actualy. I had to figure out how to make it look like its night in the middle of the day and the only way it would work was by having one of the people working on the film with me stand on a counter to cover a window that let in sunlight! It was so funny to see

Haha that is funny, but yeah I always saw the filmmaking process as an opportunity to continuously learn, and clearly it is.

I completely agree.

Alright well our time is running out here..

Boooo

Haha I know- but before the last question a quick word from our sponsors at MartinHouseholds.

Thank you so much MartinHouseholds for sponsoring this episode. Okay, back to the last question I have for you today. How would you say you integrated technologies into Charlie? Software, hardware, and online.

Oh that’s a good one. There were many technologies I used, for hardware of the filming I used an iPhone 13. This made the filming process smooth and clear because the camera quality of apple if very good

Yeah I love my iPhone’s camera and its only the iPhone X

Yes exactly and on top of that its easy to use and I’m familiar with it. For the software, I used iMovie and Splice to edit the film. Both of these apps I am extremely familiar with because of my past projects that I mentioned earlier, making them the perfect thing to use. As for online technologies, I used YouTube to upload the opening scene and Spotify to find the music, both being websites I use daily and know very well. All of these technologies are not the most advanced but they ARE user friendly and worked great for my film!

They sound perfect, and inspiring to up coming directors knowing they can do big things with whatever technology they have.

Thank you, that means a lot

Youre welcome. Now, its sad to say but that’s all my questions and time is up

Nooo

I know I wish we could talk for longer

Yeah me too, but thank you so much for having me today its been such a pleasure.

Of course, you have been lovely, my loyal listeners and I are sure to miss you!

Well I hope I'm back one day to talk about even more films.
Me too, you're always welcome back here at ModernMedia. That is all for today folks, thank you for listening and don’t forget to go see Charlie, in theaters now!
