Title Research: The Game

1. What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

The opening sequence displays the film franchise, the entertainment company, the production company, and the title of the movie.

2. What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

The opening sequence visuals are filmed on a vintage camera showing what seems to be a wedding. There are white flowers, pretty dining layouts, people wearing nice outfits, little kids playing in a field and a fancy venue. The scenes occasionally cut to a man smoking a cigarette.

3. What connotations do these images carry?

The vintage camera visual gives the feeling of nostalgia and old memories. All the bright colors of the wedding give the feeling of happiness and bliss. The outfits are very old fashioned, further adding to the nostalgic feel along with the crackle and quality of the vintage camera.

4. How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

Taking into consideration of the common conventions of a thriller, this opening sequence is trying to get the viewer in a happy and cheerful mood, making it easier to offset them with thriller type attributes, like a twisted storyline or gruesome images which completely contrast the aesthetics of the opening scene.

5. What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

The random scene cuts to the mysterious man standing and smoking a cigarette add an element of anonymity that can keep the viewer on their toes wondering what his character means to the storyline. Keeping the viewer on their toes is a crucial element of horror that appeals to the genre's target audience.

6. How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles,
transitions and editing techniques.

The way the vintage footage was edited in the opening scene is edited in a way that is very presentation esq throughout the transitions and all scenes are filmed at portrait angles and wide shot angles, giving it a very bland emotion. The background music, however, is very sulky and eerie which is a contrasting mood of the visuals represented. This effectively makes the feeling of the opening sequence ominous and offsetting.
