Here to Introduce Myself!

Hello, my name is Samantha Price and I am a sophomore at Fort Lauderdale High school. I play lacrosse, read, and crochet in my free time. I want to learn about directing films, because I love acting. That is partially why I chose to take this class. I also wanted to learn more about the film-making process as a whole. When reading the course description I was intrigued by the idea of learning about how directors use things like camera angles and sound to portray a specific point or idea. I have made a commercial and a music video, and I have learned so much. This class has influenced how I watch films and television, making me notice the choices directors make and why. I learned a lot about camera angles and editing with the last two projects, and hope to be more creative with this short film. I have some elaborate ideas that I hope to be able to do. These include thoughts on the way we should transition in between scenes.

Another important part of this class is learning about the content of the film itself. For example, how stereotypes are portrayed, and representation of minorities. I learned about many conventions with the commercial and music video, mostly being sports commercials and modern pop. I now notice when these conventions are portrayed around me in advertising and entertainment.  Learning about this has helped me become more aware of the content I consume. I think it is important for everyone to learn this so that the film industry can grow out of some of its harmful ways. I have taken Cambridge classes before, but none like this. This is a project based class that I have already completed a portion of, which I like because it really shows my growth throughout the year. This is good for me to reflect on and physically see what I learned. Finally, my short film will be something very new and different to the past projects in this class. This is exciting for me because I am motivated to be more creative. I am ready to complete this project and learn about film and media in the process.
