Intro: Nice to meet you!
Hello, my name is Samantha Price and I am a sophomore at Fort Lauderdale High school. I play lacrosse, read, and crochet in my free time. I want to learn about directing films, because I love acting. That is partially why I chose to take this class. I also wanted to learn more about the film-making process as a whole. When reading the course description I was intrigued by the idea of learning about how directors use things like camera angles and sound to portray a specific point or idea. Making films of my own, like the commercial that we just finished, and the music video we are about to do, I get to learn all of this in a fun way. This class has already influenced how I watch films and television, making me notice the actions directors take and why. I learned a lot about camera angles with the last project and hope to learn more about the editing process. For the music video, I have many elaborate ideas that I hope to utilize and complete. These include thoughts on the way we should fade and cut in between scenes.
Another important part of this class is learning about the content of the film itself. For example, how stereotypes are portrayed, and representation of minorities. I learned about so many conventions with the commercial, mostly about sports commercials, but also others. I now notice when these conventions are portrayed around me in advertising. Learning about this has helped me become more aware of the content I consume. I think it is important for everyone to learn this so that the film industry can grow out of its harmful ways. I have taken Cambridge classes before, but none like this. This is a project based class that I have already completed a portion of, which I like because it really shows my growth throughout the year. This is good for me to look back on and physically see what I learned. Finally, my music video will be to a song by one of my favorite artists. This will be a motivating factor for me because I enjoy the content we are creating. I am ready to complete this project and learn about film and media in the process.
