Production blog: Nearing the end
The editing process for our commercial went much smoother than the filming process. It started out with me going over all the takes we filmed because they were on my phone. We filmed them on my phone because I have better camera quality. After I watched them all I decided which shots to use in the final video. Next, I sent the chosen shots to Noura to edit them together. Noura did most of the editing because she was more interested in it, and knew the process better. She used iMovie to make it and put it together. She chose songs to use in the video to contrast the energy levels of our subjects. I reviewed those songs and agreed with her choices. Initially, I didn't really think the high energy song fit very well, but Noura convinced me and it worked out really well. In class we also worked on it together and had some disagreements with the filters used. I didn't like how the high energy shots looked because the filter was too intense and made the sky kind of purple, but Noura thought that was a good thing that really emphasized what we were going for. We decided to compromise and kept tweaking things until we both thought it was good. Noura finished the rest of editing after class and sent me the first draft. After watching it I sent Noura my notes and we talked about it. The notes I had were that the diligent sound in the first scene were too loud and distracting because it was windy when we filmed. I also thought that the sound being uneven throughout it shoudl eb changed. Noura made a very large difference between the high energy song and low energy song to make the contrast even more obvious, but I thought it was too loud and that the song change emphasized it enough without the volume change. Noura took my feedback and also made comments like how she wanted to still hear some of the diligent sound like the car door slamming because she thought it was important. We compromised again and she made the necessary changes and then it was done! I watched the final draft she sent me and loved it. In the end it was a very rewarding feeling for it to be done and I enjoyed the whole process.
