Creative Critical Reflection
1. How does your product use or challenge conventions AND how does it represent social groups or issues?
Our commercial uses classic energy drink conventions with aspects like our actors playing a sport and being active, the costumes being a form of active wear, having sports gear as props, and an intense scoring with empowering music. The social group it represents is athletes, featuring two and showing how Celsius can help them.
2. How does your product engage with audiences AND how would it be distributed as a real media text?
The dramatic change in the music engages the audience, as well as the difference in visuals from different scenes in the video. It would be distributed on television and across social media platforms like Instagram and Tik-Tok because it is short, yet entertaining and would keep an audience's attention until the end.
3. How did your production skills develop throughout this project?
My knowledge of how to best use my phone camera and editing software, was limited at the beginning of this project. As we filmed our commercial, I was forced to try new methods and ways of getting to my required end product. This expanded my production abilities gradually as I completed the project.
4. How did you integrate technologies – software, hardware and online – in this
project?
We used an iPhone camera to film the shots for the video and Bluetooth headphones as a microphone to record the short amount of audio needed. Online, we used iMovie to initially put the separate shots together and then moved to Splice to add the filters and scoring in the background. We chose these because they were all products and apps that we had used in the past and new at least the basics of. We also knew that they were free and had no watermarks, which wouldn’t have worked.
