Intro Blog

My name is Samantha Price and I am a student at Fort Lauderdale High school. I enjoy playing lacrosse, crocheting, and reading to pass time. I have a passion for acting and want to learn more about directing films as well as being in them. That is part of the reason I chose to take Media Studies. I also wanted to learn more about the film-making process. When reading the course description I was intrigued by the idea of learning about how directors use things like camera angles and sound to portray a specific point or idea. I also thought it would be fun to learn this through making films of my own. This class has already influenced the way I watch films and television, making me notice the actions directors take and why. I have been interested in learning the different camera angles and how to do them. I feel like I am ready to incorporate them into my work in this class. For the commercial, I have many elaborate ideas that I hope to utilize and complete.

Another important part of this class is learning about the content of the film itself. For example, how stereotypes are portrayed, and representation of minorities. Learning about these things will help me be more aware of the content I consume. I think it is important for everyone to learn this so that the film industry can grow out of its harmful ways of the past. I have taken Cambridge classes before, but none like this. That is yet another reason why I think this class will be good for me. Finally, my commercial will incorporate my other interest of lacrosse. This will be a motivating factor for me because it is combining two of my interests and will make the project easier for me. I am ready to complete this project and learn about film and media in the process.
